Project Life- Week 1 and Cover Page 2014

The Mom Creative

I am so happy to be blogging again and linking up with The Mom Creative for Project Life Tuesday. I have to say, that holiday break she took, was a little too long for me. I lost track of weeks and then realized I was 5 weeks behind on 2014 already! Where does the time go!!??

I still haven't finished the last part of week 52 of 2013 because there are so many inserts with Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Christmas Day part II. Then there is New Year's Eve.... oh my goodness. It will get done soon because I want to get all of my pages printed to go in my new white albums that my mother got me for Christmas.

I made the decision to go ahead and start on 2014, because I will remember those holiday memories a lot better than the normal every day stuff. I got my inspiration for the cover page from this page I found on Pinterest. For 2014, I had purchased these calendar cards from Paislee Press back in the fall and tried to use it this first week. I love how it looks, but realized at the end that I don't have the week number on the page. Not sure how I feel about that yet, so I may go back and change it later :)

Project Life - December weeks 49-51

The Mom Creative

Last year I followed Ali Edwards as she completed her 2012 December Daily. She is one of the reasons I found and started using the Project Life system. This year I also followed how she completed her 2013 December Daily. I think the way she does her separate album and a set of pages or page for each day of the month is great! However, I didn't think it fit into what I wanted to do. I wanted my pages to be in my Project Life album, not have a separate album, and the stress of having something to document each day was just too much for me.

I did want to document everything and I wanted to do it consistently. So I went on a long hunt for a scrapbooking kit that I could use throughout the entire month of December. I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for, but I knew when I saw kits that they just weren't "it". Then I stumbled upon a few things that, to me, just fit together perfectly!

Papers- Celeste Knight, Brown Paper Packages
Elements- Sweet Shoppe Designs, December Memories (was a freebie, but doesn't appear to be anymore)
Foil & Glitter Styles- Just Jaimee, Christmas Foil Photoshop Styles
December Date Stamps- Ali Edwards, December Daily 2013 Date Stamps

After arranging and re-arranging the elements and papers, I finally decided I would go with an off white background for the entire month. I have seen how Donna Gipson at 365 Days of Donna uses the consistent background even though using different kit and it keeps a nice flow to her pages.

I still have two insert pages for week 51 from our visit to the Gaylord Texan Hotel, but that will have to be next week. Alright, here we go... here are weeks 49, 50 and 51 of December 2013.

Project Life- Week 48

The Mom Creative

I took about 2 weeks off of work over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Over that time frame, I completed about 4 weeks of project life pages to try and get my 2013 album completed. I am actually very surprised with myself that I have made it through a full year on my first try. I guess that is testimony to how great and easy the Project Life system is! Thank you so much Becky Higgins!

I am posting week 48 by itself and then will put the other weeks together as they start December which I put together a little bit differently.

The week 48 pages have two 8.5x11 inserts that will go in one page protector and document our two Thanksgiving festivities.

Project Life- Week 47

The Mom Creative

Well it has been an interesting few days here in the DFW metroplex. We have had significant icing that started Thursday night and has continued to keep everyone inside for three days. Schools are closed again tomorrow so it will be 4 days of being inside. You would think I had time to catch up on Project Life, but I only got one page accomplished.

Yesterday evening I was coming back from my across the street neighbor's house while carrying Rachel and we slipped on the ice and fell in the middle of the street. I fell on top of her, but I think she was okay since she had a padded coat and hood on. Me on the other hand, I thought I broke my wrist and elbow. Luckily, after my body calmed down, and I got color back in my face (according to my husband) the pain started to go away as I moved around a bit.

Today we had Santa Claus come and visit so I was tied down with getting the house ready for everyone to come (about 21 kids and their parents). I am hoping to get some December pages done soon. I haven't decided yet how I want to document December. I love the December Daily that Ali Edwards creates, but I don't want to do a separate album. Maybe I'll figure something out this week.

Project Life- Weeks 44 - 46

The Mom Creative

So I made some progress in catching up and am now only 2 weeks behind!! Who-hooo!! However, with December that may become a challenge with all of the holiday activities.

I have found myself straying away from the traditional project life kits and using regular digital scrapbook kits. I guess I like the versatility of them and have kind of found my own "style" of putting the pages together that works with the kits.

I did notice that the new templates for the Squared Away set are on! I may have to try those and the Just Add Color kit once January gets here. I am trying to find a Christmas kit that I like that has enough "stuff" to go through 4 weeks and not be repeating. I am not doing December Daily, but am trying to get as much documented as possible for December. I may structure my pages a bit differently for December. Haven't really decided yet.

Enough of my rambling on... Here are my pages for weeks 44 - 46:

Stitch Fix - A New Way For Moms to Shop

I follow Jessica Turner at the Mom Creative and about a month ago she had a post about this website called Stitch Fix. The basics of this website are that you fill out a style profile and go through a bunch of questions for a designer to figure out what you like and don't like and then they send you a box of clothes in the mail. You get a few days to try them on and figure out what you like and don't like, and whatever you don't like, you can send it back in a prepaid envelope.

I was all about this process as getting out to shop as a full time mom to two children, having a career and a husband is just crazy busy most of the time. Plus after having had two children, my wardrobe was pretty old, worn out, and out of style :) So the night I read this post, I immediately went through my style profile and signed up for my first shipment.

Here is what I got and what I think about them:
Article 1: Hamilton Lace Overlay Long Sleeve Shirt

This was the first thing I pulled out of the box and really loved it. It has a royal blue under layer with a black lace layer on top. The sleeves are just regular black cotton. It fit well and I loved the style.

Article 2: Ivy Lace Printed Tab-Sleeved Blouse

I really liked this blouse as well. It is one of those see through flowy blouses that are so in style right now. This one was a beautiful emerald green with a lace print. I really liked this one too!

Article 3: Byers Houndstooth Open Draped Cardigan

When I first took this one out of the box, I really thought it was going to fit like a "regular" cardigan and it was the houndstooth print. I like the print, but originally I thought it would be too "old" for me. However... after putting it on, the cut of the sweater was very trendy and I ended up liking it.

Article 4: Kia Keyhole Bishop Sleeve Dress

When I pulled this one out of the box, my first thought was it would be great with leggings. However, after putting it on, I knew it needed to be "dressed up" a bit more. I had these awesome glitter shoes from a party that went perfectly with the dress color. It is a great length and was a loose fit without being "sloppy". Loved it!

Article 5: Ashton Bejeweled Neckline Short Sleeve Top

This was probably my least favorite top. It was navy blue, which I find hard to wear casually because I have thing thing about blue shirts and denim together. The neckline of this shirt however was absolutely gorgeous! They were huge leafy shaped rhinestones that made a beautiful vine pattern around the neck. The fit of this one was loose but a bit "boxy" for my taste. I also know I would have trouble accessorizing because of the rhinestones on it. This one will go back.

So after all of that trying on and really liking most everything in the box, I went to look at the prices :( Unfortunately, the shirts were from $64-68 and the dress was $88. That price for shirts is a little high for my budget since clothes go out of style so quickly. The dress however, yes was a little high, but dresses are dresses. Also, with Stitch Fix, you pay $20 up front for your shipment, and if you keep an item, you get that $20 credited towards your purchase. So with that in mind, the dress is a keeper.

On their website, you have a place to fill out what you think about each item. In my case, there also is a place to rate the price 1) too low 2) just right 3) too high. Once you tell the designers what you thought about each piece, it helps them with your next shipment.

Would love to hear your thoughts! Go here to get your own Fix (use this link to get there as I get referral credit). Once you get your fix, send your link to your friends to get credit too!!

Project Life- Weeks 42 & 43

The Mom Creative

OMG it is so late for me to be up, but I wanted to get this posted tonight! I had completed week 42 last Sunday, but didn't get it posted last week. I worked on Week 43 this week, and let me tell you, that was a busy week! It was Rachel's birthday and pumpkin days at school. So tons of pictures! I don't think I got all of them in the album, but there is enough for memories.

Time for me to go to bed, so here are my pages:
